The town of Katra and the temple of Vaishno Devi experience sub- tropical climate. Summers (March to June) in Katra are hot and humid, with temperature reaching 40 °C, though the temple area experiences cold nights. Monsoon starts in July and lasts till mid-September. Most of the precipitation occurs in the month of August, increasing the humidity levels. The post-monsoon months of September and October are quite pleasant, in comparison. Winter arrives in December and lasts till February. The weather is quite cold and the temperature reaches below 0 °C, accompanied by snowfall.

While the walk can be done throughout the year although, the peak season is during the summer (May-June), the New Year and the Navratra months in March-April and September-October. It is advisable to avoid the walk in the monsoon (late July to early September) when the road becomes slippery. The route is very cold in December and January, so it is better to start the walk at dawn.

All visitors need to register at the Yatra Registration Centres in Katra before leaving, and carry a registration slip with them. Online registration can also be done on the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board's official website. The trek begins at the Banganga check post, situated at the foothills. Video cameras and other electronic equipment are not allowed beyond this point, so leave them behind in Katra. It is advisable to travel as light as possible during the climb, since food, water and blankets are easily available on the way.

The maximum number of pilgrims is limited to 30000-35000 a day. During the peak season when the numbers exceed this limit, waiting slips are issued. To avoid inconvenience, register online and check your waiting status from the website before travelling.


Day 1: Arrive Jammu – Katra - Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Darshan

Morning meet on arrival at Jammu Railway station and drive to Katra. On arrival at Katra check in at hotel. In the Afternoon at 1 ‘0’ clock transfer to Helipad to catch the chopper for Shanjichat. From here will start trek to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. After Darshan back to Shanjichat to catch the chopper for Katra. On arrival transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2: Katra – Patnitop

After breakfast drive to Patnitop (80 Kms). On arrival check-in at hotel. Evening visit Nag Temple & Padora Enclave. You may hire a pony to take a trip through the Pine trees and do not forget to take a camera along for memorable photography. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 3: Patnitop – Katra

After breakfast half day sightseeing of Sanasar (Named after small local lakes, 'Sana' & 'Sar' are located 20 km west of Patnitop), Sanasar also called the mini Gulmarg and one of the remotest region of India, is a wonderful hill station in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and Nathatop- Nathatop is one of the most popular attraction of Patnitop. Nathatop will offer you a great view of Snow Coated Hills. Now a days Nathatop has been most popular for Paragliding and Hi Flying. Afternoon drive back to Katra. On arrival check-in at hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 3: Katra – Jammu drop

After breakfast drive back to Jammu. On arrival transfer to Airport/Railway station for your onward destination.
